"Lucky
Town ," starring Kirsten Dunst, James Caan & Luis Guzman
(2000)
This is a pretty new movie compared to the others on list of the Best Poker Movies, and stars Kirsten Dunst, one of my absolute favorite actresses. She plays Lidda Daniels who, after her 18th birthday, decides once and for all that she will track down her long lost father Charlie (James Caan) who abandoned her and her family when she was young to be a professional poker player.
Learning that he is in Las Vegas for a high-stakes game with an old nemesis named Tony DeCarlo, she hops in her car and goes to find him, bringing Colonel, a boy she's never even spoken too, along with her. (He fancies himself a pretty great poker player himself.) When she finally finds her father she discovers that he may be in over her head: despite the fact that he already doesn't like Charlie, Tony has also started hiring hitmen to kill the people who beat him at the poker tables. All in all this movie is pretty good & I liked it a lot.
