"Cincinnati
Kid," starring Steve McQueen, Anne-Margaret & Edward G.
Robinson (1965)
My dad's friend Bobby is a big poker player, and when he heard that I was playing poker now too he recommended that I rent this movie. I'm not a huge fan of old movies (I usually prefer the remakes!) but I have to admit I liked this one, and it is probably the best out of my top five poker movies.
An up-and-coming poker player in the 1930s, Steve McQueen thinks he can beat anyone at the game, and he wants to prove it. He travels to New Orleans to find "the Man," who has been the king of poker and the best player in the country for years. Steve wants that title - not to mention the the small fortune in the pot that comes with it - but little does he know that the dealer is being blackmailed by the Man. It's a little dated, but for tense poker action it's a great movie.
