Poker teeing off for CEOs
Golf is no longer the popular pastime among today's top CEO as poker's growth hits this select group of individual business leaders. Like golf poker has that competitive appeal of one on one competition, but without the walking. Unlike golf, in poker you are trying to out play your opponents by out witting, out bluffing and having the nerves to succeed. These aspects are commonly attributed to people in powerful positions such as CEOs, so the transition and appeal is obvious. For these reasons poker is seen as a game of skill rather than luck, where one player is pitted against another, one ego against another. Add to that not having to walk miles, not having to commit almost an entire day, and most importantly with the growth of the online poker sites you don’t even have to be in the same place. Michael Friedman of the Poker News explains that the “World CEO Entertainment is the first to attack these money magnets with its black tie CEO Poker tournament. This unique event will take the nation's top CEOs and let the biggest talents of the world's industrial giants face off against one-another in a knock-down, drag-out brawl of poker skills.” CEO poker will allow the white collar champions of the business world to stake their claim to one more thing, and the ever wanted title of “the best”. In a sense the virtual poker tables could become the 21st century’s version of coliseums, where the intellectual gladiators can battle it out.
