Poker Joins the Mile High Club

Popular culture is reaching new heights, 10,000 feet to be exact. In an attempt to liven up their sometimes short and boring domestic flights USAirways has announced that in association with the World Poker Exchange, it will now be broadcasting poker tutorials as part of their on flight lineup.

Earl Burton of the Poker News explains. "If you take a look around the planet today, poker has permeated the fabric of worldwide life. If its isn't on television as one of the multitude of professional poker tournaments or celebrity gatherings, people are online playing the game." So when you leave from Chicago, you will now be ready to play Texas Hold’Em when you land in Tampa.

Passengers will receive the poker lessons and tutorials from celebrities of the poker world such as David Sklansky, Todd Brunson and Mike "The Mouth" Matusow, all World Poker Tour Champions. Burton goes onto say that "It is definitely a unique approach to broadening the appeal of the game of poker. It is also a very real statement to the reach of the game of poker today. What used to be only seen in the casinos, and even then for some time it was hard to see, has now become a worldwide game and a cultural phenomenon!" Online Poker sites specifically, have made poker accessible to everyone with an internet connection, and as its popularity has grown the other major medians such TV have followed suit (no pun intended). Whether you recognize the celebrities of the poker world or not, this latest idea of learning Texas Hold’Em as apposed to watching re-runs of Friends episodes, or staring out the window should help to carry on the poker addiction.
